A Funeral Path in West Cork by Laurence Main

Participation in the West Cork International Walking Festival (tel. 00353 28 22812 for details) led to the discovery of a Funeral Path linking the old church and cemetery with the village church at Kilcrohane. This is on the Sheep's Head Way in West Cork, near Bantry. The grid ref. Of the village church is 820378 on the OS of Ireland's Discovery )1: 50000) map no. 88 (Cork). The relevant page in the guidebook to the Sheep's Head Way appears 21 pages from the end of the book (which has no page numbers). This is, of course, Jack Robert's territory, but the great man has moved to a new address: Carrickbanaga, Durmfin, Ballymote, Boyle, Co. Sligo, Republic of Ireland, tel. 00353 71 83781. The 55 miles of the waymarked Sheep's Head Way passes many ancient sites, including a holed or marriage stone not far to the west of Kilcrohane. Laurence Main
